Mitosis and Meiosis Comparison
Mitosis
Haploid vs Diploid
Chromosomes come in sets.
Meiosis
While the basic principles of meiosis follow the same rules as mitosis (see 6.1 for review) there are some specific differences that need to be followed.
Synapsis and Crossing Over
Synapsis is the pairing of homologous chromosomes together (tetrad) forming a Chiasma, pairing or interaction of non-sister chromatids
Crossing over = exchange of DNA material between non-sister chromatids
Nondisjunction
Nondisjunction is the abnormal separation of chromosomes in anaphase
Trisomy Syndromes (Bolded syndromes are more likely to survive into adulthood)
Trisomy related to Sex Chromosomes
