Structure Function Relationships
Structure = what it looks like
Function =what it does Much of life deals with structure function relationships. We make tables flat because slanted would not work well for holding or writing on them. Bottles are cylindrical and hallow in order to hold liquid. It would not make much sense for an object that holds liquid to be solid inside of it. That structure defeats the purpose of it's function. While that sounds intuitive, the concept fits with many aspects of Biology as well, specifically with organelles. The following sites and video are useful to explore more specifics of the topic.
