The Cell Cycle
The Cell cycle is the life cycle of a cell: the process of its growth and division. The reason for division (or reproduction) is related to surface area to volume ratios (SA:V ratio), please see below section.
Stages of the Cell Cycle: Interphase contains 3 stages: G1, S, and G2
|
Cyclins and Cell Cycle Regulation
Cyclins
Cyclins are involved in the control of the cell cycle
|
Cancer
Cancer is uncontrollable cell growth usually leading to tumors.
|
Primary tumor

What is cancer?

Mitosis
For Meiosis see Topic 3.3 & 10.1
Mitosis is division of the nucleus into two genetically identical daughter nuclei

Cytokinesis in plants vs animals Basic Genetics (Cell Cycle, mitosis, meiosis, purposes, etc,) Fantastic explanations and links |
INTERPHASE (G1, S, and G2) IS NOT A PART OF MITOSIS!!!
|
|
Cytokinesis
Cytokinesis = the division of the cytoplasm
|
Mitotic Index
Mitotic Index = Ratio between the number of cells in mitosis in a tissue and the total number of cells observed
